How to Install an Outdoor Security Camera

Due to the high amount of valuable assets that we have in our homes, break-ins occur more often than ever. To make sure that you won’t fall victim to a break-in, you must increase the security of your home. To do this, you should install an outdoor security camera. The surveillance device will enable you to record all the activity that is unfolding on your property. Some models even have features that scare off intruders. For example, certain outdoor security cameras produce a very loud noise when they sense motion or noise on your property. If you want to install an outdoor security camera to make sure that you won’t have any unwanted guests inside your home, but you’re not sure how to do it, read the following lines. Here you will find the guidance you need to perfectly install the security device.

Choose the place where you will install the security camera

The location of the outdoor security camera is extremely important. The device must be installed in a spot that is at least 10 feet high to make it impossible for someone to knock it down. Also, you must choose a broad angle for the camera to ensure that it will be able to monitor as much space as possible. We recommend that you install the outdoor security camera looking down from a corner where the roof meets the exterior wall of the house. This is the ideal location for monitoring both the entrance to the house and the rest of the property.

Mount the security camera to the wall

Some security cameras come with sticky pads, but keeping in mind that you intend to use it outdoor, it’s recommended that you mount the camera to the wall by screwing it in. What you have to do is to place the mount in the desired location. Using a pencil or a sharpie, make marks on the wall where each screw should go. Afterward, drill a hole with an electric drill for each screw. Next, hammer in the molding pins, screw the mount into the wall and position the outdoor security camera at the desired angle.

Link the security camera to your computer

Last but not least, you must link the outdoor wireless security camera to your computer. The surveillance device comes with a software disc that you must install on the computer to be able to view what the camera is recording. Follow the directions given by the software to access the security camera. In case the camera features an IP address, make sure that you write it down and carry it with you. By having the IP address of the security camera at your disposal, you will be able to type it into any web browser and view the footage that is being recorded.
